The Power of the People
by Evangelist Allen Domelle
1 Chronicles 14:2
"And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel."
I have had the privilege in my lifetime to be a part of some great works. For many years I was a member of First Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Jack Hyles. For the past several years I have had the privilege of being a member of the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church pastored by Dr. Jeff Owens. Both of these ministries have been and continue to be blessed by God in a great way. Yet, the one thing that stands out about these ministries is that they both have great people who work in them. Yes, both of these ministries have great men of God who led them, but these great works would not have happened if the people of these ministries had not allowed them to happen.
In the verse above, a great statement was made about David's kingdom when it says, "...for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel." According to the Scriptures, the reason why David's kingdom was so great was because of the people. Imagine what would have happened if the people would not have allowed David's kingdom to become great. Imagine what they would have missed out on if they had hindered that great kingdom from going forward. David's kingdom was great because of great people.
Behind every great ministry and leader are great people. Around the world there are many great ministries that God is blessing, but those ministries are great because of the people who have allowed them to become great. If these ministries were filled with a bunch of gossips and people who constantly questioned and challenged their leader's decisions, then these ministries would not be what they are today. Don't get me wrong; I don't believe we ought to give blanket loyalty to leaders. I believe everything a leader decides to do and preach should be backed up with Scripture, but these ministries have gone forward in a great way because the people did not hold them back with their attitudes or disloyalty.
There are many great ministries that have never been revealed because the people involved in those ministries held them back. What I mean by this is that the people involved in those ministries have kept the ministry from becoming what it should be because of their negative attitudes, gossip and disloyalty.
Be careful about being a hindrance to the ministry in which you are involved. Don't be guilty of holding back your church from being lifted up because you gossip, listen to gossips, constantly question every decision your pastor makes or are plainly disloyal to him. Souls are at risk! You can be a part of a great ministry if you will get behind your pastor and follow his leadership.
A ministry is only as great as the people in that ministry. If you and those in your church will become great people, then you will find that your church will become a great church. The people hold more influence in the direction of a ministry than they realize. Be careful that you are not a part of the problem, and instead be a part of the solution. Do your best to influence others to be a great people so you can have the privilege of being involved in great work.
